SwipeSpec Wins ‘Best AI Startup’ in Croatia at the National AI Business Hackathon

What is SwipeSpec?

SwipeSpec’s AI Sass Tool Streamlines the Creation of Detailed Product Specifications and Requirements for Product Teams regardless if you are working on software or hardware.

Backstory

SwipeSpec, founded by Marko Sustic and Mario Smolcic, has won the ‘Best AI Startup’ award at Croatia’s National AI Business Hackathon on March 26, 2024, in Zagreb.

The idea for SwipeSpec, an AI-driven solution designed to enhance product specification and requirement processes for product teams, was conceived by Sustic while he was giving a product management talk in San Francisco. Upon returning to Zagreb, he teamed up with Smolcic, a software developer, to turn this vision into reality.

Despite the challenges of balancing full-time jobs, the founders worked tirelessly on evenings, nights and weekends, drawing on the expertise of 15 mentors from the hackathon. Their hard work paid off, leading to their victory, immediate investment interest, and a growing waiting list for SwipeSpec’s beta trial, set to launch in the coming weeks.

The Problem and Solution

In the dynamic field of product management, the task of drafting detailed product specifications and requirements often becomes a bottleneck, especially for the creative minds of product managers. While these professionals excel in conceptualizing and designing innovative solutions, the boring process of documenting specifications can dampen their enthusiasm and, inadvertently, the quality of the documents produced. SwipeSpec introduces a new solution to this issue by leveraging the power of large language models (LLMs).

Our platform interprets natural language inputs—be it bullet points, images, or freeform text—and transforms them into structured, standardized documents essential for product development, such as Product Description Letters (PDL), Product Requirement Documents (PRD), epics, stories, and tasks, adaptable to any methodology.

Unique to SwipeSpec, every detail requires human validation through a simple ‘swipe’ action on touch devices or a click on non-touch interfaces, ensuring accuracy and human oversight. This innovative approach has earned us the nickname ‘Tinder for Specifications,’ resonating well with users who appreciate the balance of AI efficiency and human control.

Details About The Hackathon

SwipeSpec’s fresh approach was recently recognized at the inaugural National AI Business Hackathon, organized by BIRD startup incubator and sponsored by industry giants including Comping, Dell Technologies, Takeda, Koios, and Cotrugli Business School.

Out of nearly 50 contenders, only 13 teams advanced to the final round, where we presented our solution in front of an esteemed panel of four judges. Evaluation criteria included innovation and creativity (IDEA), applicability and business relevance, potential impact, and presentation skills.

SwipeSpec emerged as the winner, a testament to our solution’s potential to redefine product management processes, and to our hard work in the last month.

Future Plans

As we build on our hackathon success, SwipeSpec is focused on refining our tool and expanding our user base. Our immediate goal is to grow our waiting list and welcome the first users into our early beta release within the next few weeks.

Concurrently, we are actively seeking investors who share our vision of simplifying and enhancing the product development lifecycle.

This journey is not just about creating a tool; it’s about establishing a company that stands at the intersection of technology and practicality, catering to the needs of today’s dynamic product teams.

Long term vision

SwipeSpec’s long term vision is to become a go to place for product management, sort of like Figma is currently for designers. We strongly believe we can introduce our fresh perspective to product management segment.
